Heart of Healing – Food Tents

Meghan Perry heads up the NGO, Heart of Healing.  They have developed a Food Tent that is covered with 40% shade cloth.  They plant 300 vegetables in a food tent.  They look for organizations to sponsor the tents.  The cost to sponsor a tent is between $300-$500 U. S.  When the Food Tent is planted, someone must be responsible for watering the plants two times weekly.  We will teach them to use gel water, which will reduce the watering cycles to once every 30-90 days.

The photos show Swiss Chard, which they call spinach, being grown in a Food Tent.  They harvest up to 300 large leaves each day from the 300 plants in this Food Tent.  The Food Tents provide some shade for the plants in extremely hot weather and the tents provide a degree of security from roaming animals and wayward humans.
